JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Junior Pete Clifford got two home runs and four RBI while senior Gordie Gronkowski extended his career high hitting streak to 25 games as the JU baseball team erased an early deficit to defeat North Florida, 19-9, in Atlantic Sun Conference action Saturday afternoon at Harmon Stadium.
JU (25-10, 7-4) trailed 3-0 before pounding out 19 runs on 17 hits, including a season-high five home runs. The Dolphins hit four home runs against South Florida on Feb. 18 and scored 21 runs in a win over Detroit (21-11) on March 5, 2001. The Ospreys (18- 16, 10-7) hit four home runs in the game, but used six pitchers in the contest, including two relievers who did not record an out.
"It's hard to explain a game like this because we got a hit in every fashion that you could think of," said JU head coach Terry Alexander. "The key in this ballgame was the fact that we only walked one batter in the entire contest which put fewer runners on base when they hit their home runs."
