JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Senior Gordie Gronkowski extended his career high hitting streak to 26 games but the Dolphins rallied for two runs in the eighth to give the JU baseball team a 2-1 win and a three-game Atlantic Sun Conference sweep over North Florida, Sunday afternoon at Harmon Stadium.
JU (26-10, 8-4) moved into first place in the A-Sun standings after rallying for the third consecutive game in the series. The Ospreys (18-17, 10-8) were swept for only the fifth time in conference play and only the second time at Harmon Stadium. After combining for 28 runs and nine home runs with 30 mph winds blowing out in game two, the series finale had only three runs and no extra base hits as the winds were blowing directly in.
"For us to come in here and sweep a team like North Florida on its home field is a huge accomplishment," said JU head coach Terry Alexander. "This series was big for us not only in the conference standings but for local bragging rites and recruiting."
