Sunday, July 24, 2005 KENNESAW, Georgia – John Ducey, a recent Kennesaw State baseball signee, has been named the Most Outstanding Pitcher for his performance over the 2005 season by the Sanford River Bats of the Florida Collegiate Summer League in an awards banquet held on July 24th. Ducey went 3-2 with a 1.24 ERA in seven appearances for the River Bats. The Augusta, Georgia native also recorded 30 strikeouts in only 29 innings pitched, while walking only 11. The honor was the second award bestowed upon Ducey over the summer, as the 6’1, 195 right-hander was named the FCSL Pitcher of the Week for the week of June 20-26 after throwing eight solid innings of four-hit ball and striking out 11 in a 4-1 victory over the Daytona Barracudas. Ducey, who attended Westside High School in Augusta, is one of 16 newcomers the Owls have signed for the 2006 season. He is a transfer from Seminole Community College where he went 7-3 with a 2.38 ERA. The Owls are coming off a successful 2005 campaign that saw them advance to the championship game of the Southeast Regional before falling to eventual National Runner-Up North Florida. The Owls finished the season 37-22 and ranked No. 10 in the Final Collegiate Baseball Top 30 Poll. |
