Friday, March 10, 2006 JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida's 2-1 win over Atlantic Sun Conference rival Campbell turned into a historic night at Harmon Stadium. UNF junior right-hander Josh Papelbon pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn his fourth save of the season and in the process become UNF's all-time career saves leader, passing former Osprey standout Jerrod Payne with 20 career saves. "It's a great feeling," Josh Papelbon said. "I really wanted to come out and dominate in the ninth inning and get a strikeout on the last batter and I was able to do that. It felt great. I can't say enough about Jared Incinelli and the job he's done. If he didn't come in and keep those games close last season and even this season, I never would have had a chance to break the record." The series-opening win also proved to be a family affair as Josh's twin brother Jeremy Papelbon (2-1) earned his second win of the season after working 7.1 innings allowing a run on four hits and a pair of walks. The left-hander also struck out five Campbell batters. "I was a little nervous when (Josh) was out there pitching and I was in the dugout," Jeremy Papelbon said. "I always am when he is pitching, but I think it's great that he was able to get the save and the record and I was able to get the win on the same night." |
