Saturday, March 25, 2006 BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. -- Gardner-Webb used a series sweep of Belmont to join ETSU and Mercer atop the Atlantic Sun Conference standings on Saturday. Freshman lefty Ben Campbell tossed 8.0 shutout innings and allowed just three hits, and Jeremy McCann stole home in the fourth inning to lift Gardner-Webb to a 1-0 win and series sweep of Belmont. After watching classmate Kyle Kamppi fan 11 batters in a dominant performance earlier in the day, Campbell (2-2) - making just his second career start - was masterful in the nightcap. The Blue Ridge (S.C.) High product allowed just five base runners all day (three hits, one walk, one error) and fanned two batters while throwing less than 100 pitches in the outing. Opponents are batting just .222 against the southpaw this season. |
