This is the season opening series for both teams. The Evansville Aces entered the 2007 season ranked #21 by Baseball America, #28 by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and #29 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association preseason poll. The reigning Missouri Valley Conference champs finished 2006 with a 43-22 record. Lipscomb finished the 2006 season with an overall record of 22-32 and 11-19 in the Atlantic Sun. Evansville won the only game between these two teams in last years opener, 6-3 in Nashville. Lipscomb went 11-13 in out of conference matchups in 2006.

Josh Thompson, Mercer (Sr. - C - Pineview Ga. - Business Major)
A-Sun Preseason Player of the Year, Josh Thompson, batted .556 (5-9), with 3 RBI, 3 runs scored, 1 home run, 1 double, 1 BB and threw out 2 of 5 stolen base attempts. Thompson led the Bears to a sweep over the second-ranked Miami Hurricanes.

A-Sun Pitcher of the Week
Cory Gearrin, Mercer (Jr.- RHP - Dayton, Tenn. - Political Science Major)
Junior College transfer (Young Harris, Ga.) Gearrin collected 2 Saves in 2 appearances against second-ranked Miami. Gearrin pitched 3.0 innings, with 6 strikeouts, 3 walks while allowing 0 runs. Gearrin was named the top newcomer and top prospect in the A-Sun by Baseball America.
