Monday, February 12, 2007 Macon, Ga. – Preseason All-Conference starting pitcher, Chris Ingoglia, has been named A-Sun Pitcher of the Week, and ETSU catcher, Justin Aughey has been named the A-Sun Player of the Week. Aughey (Sr. - C – Davie, Fla. – Criminal Justice Major) hit .455 on the weekend with one home run and three RBI. The senior crushed his first homer in his first at bat of the season Friday night. The Davie, Fla. native had two crucial RBI in the Bucs’ 5-3, 13-inning victory Saturday afternoon. For the series, Aughey went 5-for-11 at the plate with a double, two runs scored and a .818 slugging percentage. Chris Ingoglia (Sr.- RHP – Boynton Beach, Fla. - Marketing Major) pitched 6 scoreless innings, striking out 8 batters, while allowing only 4 singles to earn the series-clinching win over Southern Illinois. Aughey was third on ETSU with seven home runs last season, driving in 31 runs and hitting .238 in 43 appearances.
Ingoglia (pictured left) went 6-2 in 22 games, including team high 16 starts in 2006. He also led the team with 103 innings pitched and finished third on the club with 72 strikeouts. Ingoglia allowed 3 runs or less in 8 of his 16 starts and worked at least 6 innings in 12 starts. He was named to the 2006 Postseason All-Conference Second Team. The Atlantic Sun Conference hands out Player of the Week awards weekly during the 2007 baseball season. The 12-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, UNF and Stetson with Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate beginning competition in 2007-08.
Other Top Performers Mike Armstrong, Mercer (Jr. – 1B – Evans, Ga. – Biomedical Engineering) Armstrong is off to a solid start this season hitting .389 through five games. Matt Schnelly, Lipscomb (Jr. – RHP – West Palm, Fla. – Psychology Major) Pitched 5.0 innings for the win over 21st ranked Evansville, allowing 1 earned run and striking out 3 batters. Brantley New, Mercer (Sr. – RHP – Dublin, Ga. – Business Management Major) Held Bethune-Cookman scoreless through four innings in his start on Saturday, striking out 5 batters and walking none. Caleb Glafenhein, ETSU (Sr. – Pitcher – Knoxville, Tenn. – Finance Major) Glafenhein picked up his first win of the season in game two against The Citadel, pitching six innings of relief.
