Wednesday, March 07, 2007 LUBBOCK, Texas - Atlantic Sun Player of the Week, Pete Clifford from Jacksonville, Mercer's Josh Thompson and Lipscomb's Brandon McClurg were all named to College Baseball Foundation's National Honor Roll. Pete Clifford helped the Dolphins snap a four-game losing streak with consecutive wins over LaSalle. Earlier in the week against Georgia Southern, the senior was 4-for-4, to start a .650 avg. week (13-for-20), with three doubles, a triple, eight runs, four RBI, 18 total bases, and a .900 slugging percentage. In game three against LaSalle, he went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI to lead the Dolphins to a, 6-2, win. He later was 4-for-5 with a double, a triple and two RBI to lead a, 14-4, rout over LU. He increased his hitting streak to nine games with the four-outing binge. Caleb Glafenhein was 1-0, with two saves, while tossing 9 1/3 scoreless innings and holding opponents to a .171 batting average. The senior struck out four while walking none. He pitched a perfect ninth inning against Furman to open the week and close a, 5-3, Bucs’ victory. Later he preserved a, 2-0, victory over Kent State to open the Coca-Cola Classic at Winthrop and recorded the final four outs to preserve ETSU’s first shutout in two years. Then against Temple in his lone start, he threw seven scoreless innings in a, 12-0, Bucs’ romp, and the school’s first back-to-back shutouts against Division I opponents in 26 years. Josh Thompson hit .438 for the week, with five RBIs, three runs scored, two doubles and a home run, recording a slugging percentage of .750 and an on-base percentage of .529. The senior catcher has been the catalyst for the Bears all season long, leading in batting average (.377), hits (23), doubles (6), home runs (4), RBIs (18), total bases (43), slugging percentage (.705) and walks (14). Brandon McClurg keyed the Bisons' shocking 2-1 series win over LSU in Baton Rouge by slamming the door on a late Tigers’ rally opening night. The sophomore pitched 3.2 scoreless innings of relief, giving up just two hits while striking out six, and earning the win to bring his record to (2-0). In 21 innings this season, McClurg has given up just two earned runs, while striking out 18. His ERA stands at an impressive 0.86, and opponents are batting just .189 against him.
