Tuesday, March 13, 2007 Nashville, Tenn. – Belmont Baseball is off to a strong start, at 10-3, but will face their biggest challenge of the season on Wednesday, as the team welcomes undefeated Vanderbilt to Greer Stadium. The game is set to begin at 3:00 pm. Vanderbilt is 18-0 and ranks third in the SEC in batting average and is on top of the conference in ERA. Wednesday's game will be Vandy's second official road game, as the team has played 14 games at home and three at a neutral site. Belmont is 3-10 against the Commodores under head coach Dave Jarvis. Vanderbilt has not played at Greer Stadium since 2001, when the team beat Belmont 7-1. BU's last win against the cross-town rival came in 2003, a 1-0 triumph. Sophomore Pedro Alvarez leads the SEC in homeruns, with seven, and has posted a .429 average in 2007. Lefty Mike Minor will make the start for the Commodores. He has a 2-0 record and 2.21 earned run average this season. He has struck out 25 and walked just three batters so far. Senior Ben Meador will make his third start for Belmont. He has a 2-1 record and 4.96 earned run average. Meador earned the win on Sunday against Eastern Illinois, as he pitched two innings in relief and allowed just one run on four hits. He struck out one batter and walked none in the appearance. Admission to the game at Greer Stadium is free.
