MACON, Ga. – Senior catcher Josh Thompson was named to the watch list for the 2007 Coleman Company-Johnny Bench Award announced by the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission.

Thompson has been a catalyst for the Bears all season long hitting a team-high .372 with five home runs and 20 RBIs. The fifth-year senior is a consummate leader on the squad and has seen the Mercer program improve each year since he has been in Macon.

Twenty-seven catchers from 17 conferences were nominated for the award. The watch list will be narrowed down to ten semi-finalists, whom will be announced May 17, 2007. The finalists will be announced May 30, 2007 prior to the NCAA Regionals and Major League Baseball Draft, and a final vote among the national committee will occur during the College World Series. All finalists will be brought to Wichita and the winner will be announced at the 10th Annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet on June 27, 2007.
