Stetson's Bass and Lipscomb's Brothers Named Week's Best

Macon, Ga. - The Atlantic Sun Conference office announced that Stetson junior Justin Bass has been named the Player of the Week, and Lipscomb left-handed pitcher Rex Brothers has been named the Pitcher of the Week.

This is the second player of the week award won by Bass this season. This is the seventh weekly award given to a Stetson baseball player in 2007. This is the first baseball pitcher of the week award won by a Lipscomb student-athlete in 2007.

Justin Bass, Stetson (Jr. - 1B - DeLand, Fla. - Sports Marketing): Bass led the Hatters to 4-0 week, including double digit runs in all four games, by batting .706 (12-for-17) with 12 runs scored and 7 RBI. He swatted two doubles, a triple, and a home run for 19 total bases and a 1.119 slugging percentage. He also walked twice and was hit by a pitch for a .750 on-base percentage. Bass reached in 15 of his last 17 plate appearances, including all five times on Saturday against Gardner-Webb.

For the season Bass is hitting .370 with 3 home runs, 31 RBI and 37 runs in 34 games.

Rex Brothers, Lipscomb (Fr. - LHP - Chapel Hill, Tenn. - Undecided): Brothers, a freshman left-hander, ran his record to 6-1 with a 7-2 win at Mercer Saturday. He pitched eight innings, giving up four hits, two runs, one earned, while striking out 11 batters. Mercer entered the match up striking out less than every A-Sun team except Belmont. The Bears were also second in the conference in home runs. For the season Brothers (Pictured Below) is 6-1 with a 3.53 ERA.

He has struck out 55 batters in 51.0 innings pitched. Opponents are hitting .204 against Brothers in 2007.

The Atlantic Sun Conference hands out Player and Pitcher of the Week awards weekly during the 2007 baseball season.

The 12-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, UNF and Stetson with Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate beginning competition in 2007-08.

Armstrong went 5-for-6 with three doubles in Friday night's loss to Lipscomb.

Justin Aughey, ETSU (Sr. - DH - Davie, Fla. - Criminal Justice)
The senior hit .556 on the week with three doubles, two home runs, six runs scored and five RBI.

Martin Baker, KSU (So. - CF - Birmingham, Ala. - Exercise and Health Science)
Hero in KSU's 1-0 12th inning win over Troy as he smacked a walk-off home run to propel the Owls to the extra inning victory.

Pete Clifford, Jacksonville (Sr. - OF - Jacksonville, Fla. - Business)
For the week, Clifford batted .417 (5-for-12) with a double, two home runs, 10 RBI, 12 total bases.

Jon Dandridge, UNF (Sr. - OF - Jacksonville, Fla. - Finance)
Hit .545 (6-for-11) with four runs scored, a home run and four RBIs.

Caleb Joseph, Lipscomb (So. - C - Franklin, Tenn. - Marketing)
Joseph led the Bisons on offense, going 7-16 with six runs scored and three RBIs to raise his average to .359.

Daniel Smith, Campbell (So. - 3B - Raleigh, N.C. - Trust Management)
Smith ended the week batting .667, which included a streak of reaching base in eight straight plate appearances.

Caleb Glafenhein, ETSU (Sr. - P - Knoxville, Tenn. - Finance)
The senior was 2-0 with a 0.90 ERA on the week, throwing 10 innings, striking out five and picking up both wins in a doubleheader sweep.

Chris Ingoglia, Stetson (Sr. - LHP - Boynton Beach, Fla. - Marketing)
Tossed eight shutout innings Friday night against Gardner-Webb. Struck out six, walked three, and scattered six hits.

Brad Johnson, North Florida (Sr. - LHP - Tampa, Fla. - Civil Engineering)
He struck out 10 batters, didn't allow an earned run in seven innings of work and gave up five hits in the no-decision.

Brantley New, Mercer (Sr. - RHP - Dublin, Ga. - Business Management)
Over New's last seven starts, he sports an ERA of 2.30 with 38 strikeouts.

Justin Young, Jacksonville (Sr. - P - Oviedo, Fla. - Computer Information Systems)
Young notched his second complete-game victory of the season to finish the week 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA, no walks and three strikeouts.
