Chuck Opachich is on a career-best hitting streak Courtesy of JUDolpins.com Monday, April 13, 2009 MACON, Ga. - UNF senior John Frawley notched his fourth-straight complete game win and second shutout of the season to earn his second career Pitcher of the Week. Jacksonville's Chuck Opachich batted a team-best .565 with seven runs to earn Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. Frawley, an accounting major, dueled with A-Sun preseason all-conference selection Rex Brothers in a 1-0 UNF win against Lipscomb on Friday, April 10. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native struck out eight Bisons and scattered five hits on his way to a perfect 4-0 record against A-Sun competition. It was the third time this season he had allowed only five hits. Junior second baseman Opachich has been the spark plug for a JU squad which moved to second in the conference standing after going 4-0 last week. The Jacksonville, Fla., native is currently in the midst of a career-best 24-game hitting streak, Opachich finished the week with seven runs, four doubles, five RBI, 14 total bases, a .778 slugging percentage and a .600 on-base percentage. In a 12-10 win over USF, the management major went 2-for-6 with a career-best two doubles and two RBI. In a 17-10 win over ETSU in game one, he went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. In a 12-10 rally win over ETSU in game two, Opachich was white hot by finishing 4-for-4 from the plate with a sacrifice bunt. In the 4-3 series finale win over the Bucs, he kept things going by finishing 2-for-4 with an RBI. The Atlantic Sun Conference is an 11-member league committed to Building Winners for Life. Other Top Performers Michael Langley, Mercer (2B - Lilburn, Ga. - Jr. - Business) -- Mercer second baseman Michael Langley posted a .556 batting average in a week that saw the Bears win 3-of-4 games, including winning a three-game set against Stetson for the first time since Mercer's modern era of baseball began in 1948. The junior business major went 10-18 on the week with four RBI and four doubles for a .778 slugging percentage. A native of Lilburn, Ga., Langley went 10-for-18 and scored eight runs, including scoring four runs in Mercer's 16-12 win over College of Charleston on Wednesday. Langley went a perfect 4-for-4 in the Bears' 8-3 series-opening win against the Hatters on Thursday and currently leads the team and is 10th in the A-Sun with a .375 batting average. Phillip Morgan, USC Upstate (C/1B - Campobello, S.C. - Sr. - Criminal Justice) -- Raised average 49 points on the week, thanks to a 12-for-23 stretch in the last five games ... Had a career-high four hits twice in the week and had a hit in all five games ... Started week by going 4-for-6 with career-high six RBI at Wake Forest ... Missed a cycle by just a triple ... Hit a three-run homer in the eighth ... Went 2-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI against Presbyterian ... Added a 4-for-4 game with two runs and RBI at Kennesaw State on Sunday in the Spartans' 7-5 win. Matt Zeblo, Belmont (C - Raleigh, N.C. - So. - Business Administration) -- Led the team in runs scored (5), hits (8), home runs (2), total bases (14), slugging percentage (1.167), walks (5), stolen bases (1) and on-base percentage (.765). Zeblo had two hits, including a home run, in Belmont's 6-4 victory over UT-Martin on Apr. 7. He had two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs in the second game of a doubleheader against Campbell on Apr. 9. In the final game of the week, he had three hits and one run scored in Belmont's 14-7 loss to Campbell on Apr. 10. |
