Wednesday, June 10, 2009 SECAUCUS, N.J. - One day after three A-Sun pitchers were picked in the top 50 selections, nine more stars of diamond heard their named called, led by 2009 Player of the Year, Jeremy Cruz from Stetson. Cruz, who hit .399 with 18 home runs and a conference-leading 80 RBI, was selected in the 13th round by the Los Angeles Angels, one of three A-Sun players chosen by the West Division franchise. They added a pair from the conference champion Jacksonville Dolphins in catcher Jeremy Gillan (17th round) and pitcher Carson Andrew (29th round). After Chad Jenkins and Kyle Heckathorn went in the top 50 picks, three more Kennesaw State Owls went off the board on day two. Detroit picked All-Atlantic Sun reliever Kenny Faulk in the 16th round while Atlantic chose Second-Team catcher Jace Whitmer in the 17th round. In the 28th round, the Owls saw a third starting pitcher get drafted when St. Louis chose Justin Edwards. Two of Cruz's teammates, Casey Frawley and Robert Donovan were chosen on Wednesday. Frawley, the First-Team All-Atlantic Sun short stop went to Cleveland in the 17th round while Houston chose Donovan in the 23rd round. The White Sox tabbed Belmont's Daniel Wagner with their 16th-round selection. As a junior, Wagner finished second on Belmont's single-season RBI record list with 57, to go with 10 home runs and 24 stolen bases while hitting .323. The draft concludes on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. with rounds 31-50. |
