Monday, March 15, 2010 MACON, Ga. – FGCU’s Tim Roberson earned Player of the Week honors while leading the Eagles to a conference sweep and Stetson Kurt Schluter’s near no-hitter helped him earn Pitcher of the Week honors. Roberson led FGCU to a three-game sweep of USC Upstate last weekend. For the week, the West Palm Beach, Fla. native hit .625 and had a slugging percentage of 1.125, while reaching base over 60% of the time. Roberson also registered 10 hits, scored eight runs, drove in six runs, and had a pair of doubles and a pair of homers. In his first start at the collegiate level and only his sixth appearance, Schluter took a no-hitter into the ninth inning against Central Michigan. The Jupiter, Fla. native finally surrendered a single with one out in the ninth inning. Along the way, Schluter struck out 10 Chippewas, and played four games at first base during the week, hitting .375 (6-16) with two home runs, one double and 5 RBIs. Other Top Performers Riche Erath, FGCU (Jr. - RHP - West Palm Beach, Fla. - Business Management) – Throwing a solid eight innings, Erath allowed just two runs (two earned) on nine hits, with three strikeouts and no walks as the FGCU defeated USC Upstate 12-3 Sunday. The junior righty improved his record to 3-0 on the season with the win. Tyler McCarty, Mercer (Sr. - DH - Griffin, Ga. - Business) – McCarty helped guide Mercer to a 3-1 week, including two wins against A-Sun member Campbell. The senior currently ranks second on the team in batting average (.453), on-base percentage (.545) and doubles (8). He leads the team with 12 walks. Preston Hale, UNF (Sr. - OF - Lakeland, Fla. - Criminal Justice) – Hale batted .600 on the week, helping the Ospreys to a pair of victories. The Lakeland, Fla. native finished the week 9-for-15 with a team-best seven runs scored, three doubles and two home runs. Hale started the week with a 2-for-3 performance at No. 2 Florida State, where he finished the game with a double and a home run, two RBI and a run scored. The criminal justice major’s home run against the Seminoles tallied just the second home run allowed by FSU this season Tyler Cook, USC Upstate (So. - OF - Bloomington, Ill. - Business Administration) – Cook posted a hit in all five games USC Upstate played last week, but came alive during series against FGCU, going 9-for-14 (.643) with six runs, four RBIs, two doubles, a triple and a homer. The Bloomington, Ill. native recorded four hits, three runs, three RBIs and a homer in the opening game of series before posting three hits, two runs and a double in the second game. Cook wrapped up the series with a triple and a double on Sunday.
