Four Named to Brooks Wallace Shortstop Watch List

MACON, Ga. – FGCU’s Stephen Wickens, Jacksonville’s Jamaal Hawkins, Mercer’s Evan Boyd and UNF’s Andrew Hannon earned spots on the Brooks Wallace Shortstop Watch List.

The Atlantic Sun Conference features four student-athletes on the list. Only the Southeastern Conference and Atlantic Coast Conference placed more student-athletes on the list, as each grabbed five spots. The Wallace Award, sponsored by Mizuno, recognizes the nation’s top shortstop and will be presented on July 2 in Lubbock, Texas, as part of the College Baseball Awards Show.

Wickens carries s a .368 batting average with 20 runs scored and 13 RBIs for the Eagles, who hold a record of an overall record of 12-6 and a mark of 5-1 in conference action. The junior batted .356 last season and earned Second-Team All-Atlantic Sun honors.

Hawkins leads the Dolphins in batting average with a mark of .397 and holds a .651 slugging percentage and 10 extra base hits on the season. Hawkins has driven in 19 runs and scored 13 in 16 starts for Jacksonville.

Boyd enters action Tuesday with a .351 batting average and a .473 slugging percentage with a .455 on base percentage. This season, the freshman has started in all 21 games for the Bears and helped them to a No. 13 run production in the nation.

Hannon ranks second on the Ospreys in batting average with a .410 mark. The junior holds a .614 slugging percentage with 11 extra base hits on the campaign, including three home runs.

The College Baseball Awards Show is part of a nearly weeklong schedule of festivities sponsored by the College Baseball Foundation. The events also include the induction ceremony for the National College Baseball Hall of Fame.
