Wednesday, April 14, 2010 When things haven’t seemed to go their way in 2010, the Dolphins finally decided to take matters into their own hands as the JU baseball team scored eight runs in the final two innings to slug its way to a 10-8 win over No. 6 Florida State, Wednesday evening at Dick Howser Stadium. JU (18-17), which has now won in two of its last three games at Dick Howser, scored its most runs in Tallahassee since winning a 12-6 decision over FSU (26-8) on April 30, 1973. The win was also the second against a ranked opponent this season (Oklahoma). “It’s always a big win when you can defeat a team in the top 10, said JU head coach Terry Alexander. “But to get a win on the road in the part of the year when we are injured and banged up shows the heart and character of this team against a tremendous opponent like Florida State.” Freshman Kentrail Pierce (3-1) got the win after allowing an unearned run in 0.1 innings of relief. Junior Matt Loosen earned his first save of the year by getting the final four outs, including a strikeout of Justin Gonzalez with runners on second and third for the final out. Junior Chris Kaminski earned the no-decision after allowing only two runs on two hits with three walks and five strikeouts in six innings of work. A deeper look into his dominant outing, Kaminski retired the Seminoles in-order in five-of-six of his innings. |
