Hoilman named to Golden Spikes Award Watch List

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Junior Paul Hoilman was named to the 2010 Golden Spikes Award Watch List, announced USA Baseball on Tuesday.

“This is a tremendous honor for Paul,” said head coach Tony Skole. “The Golden Spikes Award is the Heisman Trophy for college baseball.  For him to even be considered speaks volumes to how hard he has worked, and what he has accomplished thus far.”

The Golden Spikes Award is given to the best amateur baseball player in the country by USA baseball and Major League Baseball. The watch list includes 60 NCAA Division I baseball players, and past winners include Jason Varitek, Tim Lincecum and Stephen Strasburg. Hoilman was one of 23 players added to the “rolling” watch list as the 30 finalists will be named on June 1. The first baseman is the first ETSU player to ever be added to the Golden Spike Award Watch List.

Hoilman joins fellow A-Sun student athlete FGCU's Chris Sale on the Golden Spikes watch list.
