FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU baseball team completed the three-game sweep over ETSU to remain in first place in the Atlantic Sun Conference as they defeated the Bucs, 15-8, on Sunday afternoon at Swanson Stadium.

With the win, the Eagles move to 31-16 on the year and 20-4 in A-Sun play and ETSU’s record moves to 27-21 overall and 14-10 against A-Sun competition. FGCU’s magic number to win the A-Sun Regular Season Championship is one (one more FGCU win OR a loss by UNF).

Senior Pete Woodworth (St. Petersburg, Fla.) earned the win for FGCU. The righty (7-1) threw six complete innings, allowed two runs on seven hits, while striking out six.

Bo Reeder received the loss for ETSU. Reeder (3-4) gave up 11 runs (six earned) on 11 hits in 4.2 innings of work.

The Eagles exploded for six runs in the bottom of the first to jump out to a commanding 6-0 lead. FGCU scored their six runs on five hits (four singles and one double). Zach Maxfield (North Port, Fla.) doubled, while Stephen Wickens (Whitby, Ontario), Mikel Alvarez (West Palm Beach, Fla.), Josh Chester (Weston, Fla.), and Austin Gaines (Dunedin, Fla.) all singled in the frame.

The Blue and Green added a run in the second (7-0) off of a Tim Roberson (West Palm Beach, Fla.) sacrifice fly that scored Alvarez, who reached after smacking a triple to center field. The Eagles also brought in another run in the third (8-0) off an RBI triple from Wickens.
