JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Junior catcher Derek Trent (Kingsport, Tenn.) was named a Johnny Bench Award Semifinalist announced The Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission on Wednesday.
 
Trent joins 15 other catchers nationally as semifinalists for the prestigious award. The Johnny Bench Award is given annually to the nation’s top collegiate catcher based on athletic ability, sportsmanship, team leadership and character.
 
The Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission will name the finalists for the award on June 2, prior to the NCAA Regionals and Major League Baseball Draft.
