MACON, Ga. – Campbell’s Jimmy Brennaman spearheaded a Camel offense from the lead-off position while UNF’s Casey Medlen limited Liberty to two hits over 7.1 innings of work to claim the Atlantic Sun’s Player and Pitcher of the Week awards, respectively, the conference announced on Monday.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Jimmy Brenneman, Campbell (OF – Jr. – West Chester, Ohio – Sport Management)

  • First A-Sun Player of the Week award
  • Led Campbell offensive attack, hitting .462
  • Scored seven runs in four games
  • Knocked in three runs from the lead-off position
  • Successfully stolen four bases in four tries

 

OTHER NOMINEES:

  • Mikel Alvarez (2B, FGCU) – Hit .429 in three-game series with Illinois; collected 250th hit of his career during the weekend
  • Andy Chriscaden (1B/, Kennesaw State) - Hit .526 with a game-winning home run against Memphis; Collected four extra base hits, scored four runs and two stolen bases
  • Derek Hamblen (OF, Belmont) - Led Belmont in hitting with a .333 average; Tallied five hits, five runs scored, and two walks in 15 at bats
  • Tyler Miller (OF, USC Upstate) - Batted .474 and hit his first homerun of the season to go along with six RBI and four runs scored
  • Taylor Ratliff (3B, Jacksonville) – Sparked the Dolphins to a 4-1 record by batting .500 with five runs, a double, three RBI, a .545 on-base percentage while slugging .556
  • Derrick Workman (OF, Mercer) - Hit .435 with two home runs, eight RBI and three stolen bases as the Bears went 5-1

 

PITCHER OF THE WEEK:
Casey Medlen, UNF (SP – Sr. – Apopka, Fla. – Health Administration)

  • First A-Sun Pitcher of the Week award
  • Tossed a career-high 7.1 innings of shutout baseball to power UNF to a 5-0 win vs Liberty
  • Held the Flames to just a pair of hits – both singles
  • Recorded a career-best seven strikeouts, while walking just one batter
  • Boasted five 1-2-3 innings in his outing...Retired 12 straight batters in order in one stretch
  • Opponents batted just .080 against him

 

OTHER NOMINEES:

  • Alan Busenitz (RP, Kennesaw State) - Pitched six scoreless innings in appearances against UAB and Memphis; Earned the win with three one-hit innings against Memphis Chase Brookshire (SP, Belmont) - Led Bruins to a win at Mississippi State after pitching 6.0 innings; Gave up one run on six hits
  • Steve Eagerton (SP, Jacksonville) - Earned his first win of the season by hurling a career-high seven shutout innings in a win over Samford
  • Richie Erath (SP, FGCU) - Tossed seven strong innings to help FGCU defeat Big Ten foe Illinois; Allowed only one unearned run and struck out five
  • Chris Knauff (RP, USC Upstate) – In three relief appearances he and picked up a win against Presbyterian and owned a 1.93 ERA in 4.2 innings of work
  • Ryan Koopman (SP, Campbell) - Turned in a stellar performance against UNC Asheville tossing 7.0 innings of three hit baseball to pick up his second win of the season
  • Matt McCall (SP, Mercer) - Put together the best outing of his collegiate career, throwing a near no-no, allowing no hits until a lead-off single to start the eighth inning
