MACON, Ga. – ETSU improved to 10-2, its best start in six years thanks to performance at the plate by Atlantic Sun’s Player of the Week Matthew Scruggs and on the mound by Pitcher of the Week Bo Reeder, the conference announced on Monday.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Matthew Scruggs, ETSU (OF – Jr. – Knoxville, Tenn. – Sports Management)
First A-Sun Player of the Week award
Hit .353 including back-to-back game winning hits against UNF
Roped a two-run triple in game one to put the Bucs up 4-0 as ETSU went on to win 6-3
Delivered a two-run game winning home run in the ninth inning of game two to wrap up the series
On the week, drove in six runs on a triple and two home runs, while scoring five runs
OTHER NOMINEES:
Jimmy Brenneman (OF, Campbell) - hit .417, scored five runs and stole three bases
Thomas Carroll (OF, Mercer) - led Bears to series victory vs FGCU; hit .471 in four games
Tim Egerton (OF, Belmont) - led team to a 3-1 week; hit .444 and drove in seven runs
Ronnie Freeman (C, Kennesaw State) - hit .412 with a .565 on-base percentage in five games
Zach Maxfield (1B, FGCU) - hit .353 with two home runs and seven RBI
Taylor Ratliff (3B, Jacksonville) - hit .500, stole four bags and scored six runs in four games
Luke Weber (C/DH, USC Upstate) - hit .368 with three extra base hits
PITCHER OF THE WEEK:
Bo Reeder, ETSU (RP – So. – Cookeville, Tenn. – Exercise Science)
First A-Sun Pitcher of the Week award
Finished a perfect 4-for-4 for the Bucs in save opportunities
Threw 4.0 scoreless innings of relief while striking out four
Took over A-Sun lead with seven saves
OTHER NOMINEES:
Josh Carr (SP, Kennesaw State) - allowed two runs and fanned seven in 8.0 IP at Belmont
Steve Eagerton (SP, Jacksonville) - won his third straight decision by beating USC Upstate
Ryan Fern (RP, USC Upstate) - pitches 5.0 innings of relief and picked up two wins
Matt Hamann (RP, Belmont) – earned a save vs MTSU and a win against Kennesaw State
D.J. Johnson (RP, Mercer) - gave up just one run in 7.1 innings of relief work
Ryan Koopman (SP/RP, Campbell) – tossed a complete game against No. 26 Stetson
