MACON, Ga. – Stetson’s Robbie Powell earned two wins out of the Hatter bullpen to claim his first Atlantic Sun Pitcher of the Week while UNF’s Sam Perry hit better than .600 against FIU and Belmont to win the Player of the Week award, the conference announced on Monday.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Sam Perry, UNF (3B – Sr. – Atlantic Beach, Fla. – Transportation and Logistics)
- First A-Sun Player of the Week award
• Helped UNF go 4-1 with a sweep of Belmont and a win against 2010 NCAA participant FIU
- Led the team in hitting (.643) on-base percentage (.750) and slugging percentage (1.214)
- Hit safely and scored at least one run in all five games
- Scored a team-high nine runs on the week and drove in eight RBI
- Had three games with multiple hits, runs and RBI
- Hit a three-run home run against FIU and added a home run and a triple against Belmont
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Josh Chism (3B, Lipscomb) - Hit .718 vs Jacksonville, hit first career grand slam on Sunday
- Robert Crews (2B, Stetson) - Hit .500 with 11 hits and 10 runs scored
- Blake Green (OF, USC Upstate - Hit .615 with a .688 on-base percentage against FGCU
- Derek Hamblen (LF/2B, Belmont) - Hit .421, stole three bases and scored three runs
- Ellis Lowe (IF, Campbell) - Hit .524 and notched 11 hits; became CU’s all-time leader in runs
- Jacob Tanis (3B, Mercer) - Led Bears with two home runs, five RBI and five runs scored
PITCHER OF THE WEEK:
Robbie Powell, Stetson (RP – Jr. – Punta Gorda, Fla. – Business Administration)
- First A-Sun Pitcher of the Week award
- Made three appearances on the week picking up two wins
- Tossed 7.0 innings in which he walked one and struck out 11
- Gave up just one earned run on the week, posted a 1.29 ERA
- Pitched season-high 3.2 innings, struck out five and earned the win at No. 4 Florida State
- Stetson defeated Florida State for the first time since 1988
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Robbie Collier (SP, UNF) – Allowed one run in six innings vs Belmont; struck out eight
- Matt Marksberry (RP, Campbell) – Allowed only three hits in 7.1
innings of relief work
- Jordan Rusk (RP, USC Upstate) – In two appearances posted a 1-0 record and a 1.69 ERA
