Scruggs, Tomshaw Win Baseball Weekly Awards

MACON, Ga. – ETSU’s Matthew Scruggs headed up a 4-0 week for the Buccaneers that included a sweep of Manhattan in the ESPN Mid-Major Matchup of the Week and Jacksonville’s Matthew Tomshaw continued his career-long domination of FGCU to win the Atlantic Sun’s Player and Pitcher of the Week awards the conference announced on Monday.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Matthew Scruggs, ETSU (OF – Jr. – Knoxville, Tenn. – Sports Management)

• Second A-Sun Player of the Week award this season
• Hit .583 (7-for-12) with two doubles, two home runs and drove in five as ETSU went 4-0 on the week
• Hit .444 with four runs scored in a three-game sweep of Manhattan in the ESPN Mid-Major Series of the Week
• Collected three hits including a three-run home run against Eastern Kentucky
• Drew four walks on the week and scored seven times while slugging an amazing 1.250

OTHER NOMINEES:
• Tim Egerton (OF, Belmont) – Hit .313 with two home runs and four RBI
• Taylor Ratliff (2B, Jacksonville) – Hit .583 with a .688 on-base pct in series win vs FGCU
• Joe Winker (DH, Mercer) – Collected 11 hits and a .733 average in series vs Winthrop

PITCHER OF THE WEEK:
Matthew Tomshaw, Jacksonville (SP – Sr. – Kingston, N.Y. – Finance)

• First A-Sun Pitcher of the Week award
• Notched first shutout as he scattered three hits and walked only one batter while striking out five in 6-0 win against FGCU
• Became first Dolphin to throw a 9-inning shutout since Dennis Robinson shut out Campbell, 8-0, on April 16, 2004
• Threw his second-straight complete game against Eagles (May, 15, 2010)
• Lowered career ERA against FGCU to 0.68 (2 ER in 26.1 IP)
• Marked the third shutout for JU this season, its most since 2004

OTHER NOMINEES:
• Jake Boyd (RP, Stetson) – Earned two wins in relief as No. 17 Stetson swept UNF
• Derek Bushey (SP, ETSU) – Held Manhattan to one run in seven innings
• Garrett Fanchier (RP, Belmont) – In three appearances, allowed two hits and struck out five
• Ricky Knapp (SP, FGCU) – Won his third-straight start, held JU to one run in seven innings
