Atlantic Sun Puts Four on NCBWA All-American Team

MACON, Ga. - The national awards continued to roll in for Atlantic Sun Conference baseball student-athletes with four earning NCBWA All-American honors, announced on Wednesday. Jacksonville's Adam Brett Walker and Mercer's Jacob Tanis landed on the second team, while ETSU's Bo Reeder and Paul Hoilman adorned the thrid team.

Walker led the A-Sun with a .411 batting average, 99 hits and 23 doubles in helping the Dolphins reach the NCAA regionals for the fourth time in the last six seasons. He also paced the squad with 13 home runs, 75 RBI, 165 total bases and a .685 slugging percentage. His hits, RBI and total bases totals all broke single-season records for the program. In conference, Walker batted .446 with 16 doubles, six home runs and 42 RBI to take home the A-Sun’s top honor.

To date for this season, the Wisconsin native has also been named first team all-conference and “Player of the Year” by the A-Sun, Louisville Slugger second team All-America by Collegiate Baseball and was a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy (NCBWA) and Golden Spikes Award (USA Baseball).

“This is a big honor for Adam,” said JU head coach Terry Alexander. “He had a huge year for us so I’m not surprised he is continuing to get noticed. We look forward to seeing Adam get better as he continues his JU career.”

This marks Tanis’ third All-American honor during his brilliant career as a Bear after being named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American in 2009 and a Louisville Slugger third team All-American in 2010.

Tanis had another rock solid campaign for the Bears, leading Mercer to 39 wins and a runner-up finish in the 2011 A-Sun Championship. Tanis finished the season leading the conference with 75 RBI while ranking among the A-Sun Top-10 in home runs (T-2nd – 15), total bases (4th – 145), runs scored (6th – 61), slugging percentage (7th - .612), hits (T-8th – 83) and on-base percentage (10th - .446).

Reeder picked up his third All-American honor this season as he was also named a Louisville Slugger First Team All-American and a Baseball America Third Team All-American utility player. The Cookeville, Tenn. native was also selected to the first ever College Baseball Lineup All-Star Team as a two-way player. Reeder is currently also a finalist for the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award and a semifinalist for the Olerud Two-Way Player Award.

A 2011 Atlantic Sun All-Conference selection, Reeder posted outstanding numbers hitting .316 with 16 doubles, 15 home runs and 59 RBI as a third baseman, and also shattered the Atlantic Sun single season saves record after posting a nation-best 18 saves as a closer. Reeder touted a 1.95 ERA on the mound limiting opponents to a .165 batting average while striking out 32 batters in 27.2 IP.

Hoilman, a senior first baseman, had arguably one of the best careers in Buccaneer Baseball history after breaking numerous Atlantic Sun and ETSU career records. Hoilman hit .313 with 22 doubles, 22 home runs and 50 RBI in his senior season. During his career, the local product posted a .369 average with 83 doubles, 73 home runs, 247 RBI and 161 walks.
