Friday, July 01, 2011 OVERLAND PARK, Kansas (June 27, 2011) – ETSU baseball’s Paul Hoilman (Johnson City, Tenn.) was named to the 2011 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award Second Team after being one of ten finalists for the prestigious award. The award, chosen by a nationwide vote of Division I head coaches, national media and fans, is given annually to the most outstanding senior student-athlete in NCAA Division I baseball. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition. Hoilman, the 2011 Atlantic Sun Male Scholar Athlete of the Year and a Capital One First Team All-American, became the new Atlantic Sun career record holder for both doubles (83) and home runs (73) after hitting .313 with 22 doubles and 22 home runs in his final season at ETSU. The senior first baseman also broke numerous ETSU career and single season records while leading the Buccaneers to their best finish in 30 years posting 36 wins in 2011. A Mathematics major, Hoilman graduated from ETSU with a 3.95 overall GPA, and was selected in the 19th round of the MLB First-Year Player Draft by the Chicago Cubs. Fan votes were combined with media and coaches votes to determine the winner. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
