MACON, Ga. – Stetson's Mitchel Brennan and Belmont's Scott Moses kicked off the 2012 Atlantic Sun Baseball Campaign by claiming the conference weekly honors. Brennan led the Hatters to a series sweep vs. George Washington with four hits and six walks, while Moses fanned eight batters in four innings for the combined 2-0 shutout of Evansville.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Mitchel Brennan, Stetson (RF – Jr. – Orlando, Fla. – Finance)
- First Career A-Sun Player of the Week award
- Batted .667 (4-of-6) in opening weekend with six runs scored, two doubles and a homer
- Drove in five runs with a 1.500 slugging percentage
- Added six walks and one hit-by-pitch for a .846 on-base percentage
- Led No. 26 Hatters to three-game sweep of George Washington
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Greg Brody (INF, Belmont) - Recorded hits in all three games for the Bruins with two RBI
- Gaither Bumgardner (OF, USC Upstate) - Posted a .556 average to help Spartans to 2-0 start
- Matthew Scruggs (OF, ETSU) - Belted three home runs vs. Eastern Kentucky including first homer in the new Thomas Stadium
- Chesny Young (3B, Mercer) - Hit. 533 with a homer and five RBI to help Bears to 3-1 weekend
- Zak Messer (1B, Lipscomb) - Notched four extra-base hits with two RBI
- Will Howard (CF, Kennesaw State) - Tallied four hits and scored thrice on the weekend
PITCHER OF THE WEEK:
Scott Moses, Belmont (RP ‐ Fr. – Englewood, N.C. – Mathematics)
- First Career A-Sun Pitcher of the Week
- Entered game in relief to strike out eight batters vs Evansville and earn the victory
- Allowed only one hit in the appearance and one walk
- Earned the combined shutout with starting pitcher Chase Brookshire
OTHER NOMINEES:
- David Roseboom (SP, USC Upstate) - Earned the win vs. Eastern Michigan with six shutout innings and four hits
- Lindsey Caughel (SP, Stetson) - Hurled seven shutout innings in just 75 pitches with four strikeouts
- John Long (SP, ETSU) - Earned the first victory at Thomas Stadium with six innings pitched and only four hits allowed
- David Randall (SP, Mercer) - Threw 5.1 innings of shutout ball vs. Morehead State with eight fanned batters
- Connor Sinclair (SP, Lipscomb) - Completed six shutout innings with only five hits allowed and two strikeouts
