MACON, Ga. – Kennesaw State's Ronnie Freeman and FGCU's Ricky Knapp earned the Atlantic Sun Conference Baseball weekly honors, announced Monday by the league office. Freeman tallied 12 RBI in a three-win week for the Owls, while Knapp posted a complete-game shutout on Friday in the conference season opener vs. North Florida.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Ronnie Freeman, Kennesaw State (C – Jr. – Lawrenceville, Ga. – Exercise & Health Science)
- Fourth Career A-Sun Player of the Week award; first this season
- Went 9-for-23 on the week with 12 RBI and two runs scored
- Blasted fifth-inning grand slam to push Owls past UAB on Tuesday
- Guided Owls to A-Sun series road win vs. Mercer
- Batted 5-for-12 vs. Bears with six RBI
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Austin Liput (2B, USC Upstate) - Guided the Spartans to sweep of Lipscomb with a .400 average
- Dylan Craig (OF, Belmont) - Went 6-for-18 with five runs scored and seven RBI; tied Belmont career record for triples
- Sean Dwyer (1B, FGCU) - Batted .400 vs. UNF with three extra-base hits and three runs scored
- Mitchel Brennan (OF, Stetson) - Drove in three runs on the week; batted .429 in Stetson's 3-1 week
PITCHER OF THE WEEK:
Ricky Knapp, FGCU (RHP – So. – Port Charlotte, Fla. – Civil Engineering)
- First Career A-Sun Pitcher of the Week
- Hurled complete-game shutout in conference opener vs. North Florida on Friday
- Matched a career-high with six strikeouts
- Allowed only three hits and three walks in 92-pitch outing
- Lowered ERA to 1.65 - third-best in the A-Sun
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Jake Long (RHP, ETSU) - Earned win vs. Belmont after seven innings on only five hits and three wins
- Kurt Schluter (SP, Stetson) - Claimed national lead for 15th-consecutive victory with seven shutout innings vs. Rutgers
- Garrett Fanchier (RP, Belmont) - Failed to allow an earned run in three appearances with two saves
- Steve Janas (P, Kennesaw State) - Allowed only one hit and struck out nine in win vs. Mercer on Saturday
- Scott DeCecco (P, USC Upstate) - Gave up only four hits and no runs in 9.2 innings of work to improve to 4-0 on season
- Chris Anderson (RHP, Jacksonville) - Tossed complete-game win vs. Western Carolina on five hits and two runs
