MACON, Ga. – Lipscomb's Zak Messer and FGCU's Ricky Knapp earned the Atlantic Sun Conference Baseball weekly honors, announced Monday by the league office. Messer guided the Bison to first-ever sweep of Mercer with seven RBI and five extra-base hits, while Knapp hurled his second-straight complete game shutout in the series opener vs. ETSU.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Zak Messer, Lipscomb (2B – Sr. – Bristol, Va. – MBA)
- First Career A-Sun Player of the Week award; first in program history
- Led Lipscomb to first sweep of Mercer in program history
- Went 7-for-13 on the week with seven RBI and five extra-base hits
- Belted two-run homer in eighth inning on Sunday to propel Bison to 7-4 win
- Posted slugging percentage of 1.308 with two home runs
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Luke Weber (C/DH, USC Upstate) - Totaled 12 hits with three doubles to help Spartans take series win vs. UNF
- Andy Chriscaden (1B, Kennesaw State) - Belted three home runs with nine RBI and five runs scored
- Alex Diaz (SS, FGCU) - Recorded eight hits with four extra-base hits and four RBI
- Greg Brody (3B, Belmont) - Went 7-for-19 on the week with nine RBI; helped Bruins take series vs. #15 Stetson
PITCHER OF THE WEEK:
Ricky Knapp, FGCU (RHP – So. – Port Charlotte, Fla. – Civil Engineering)
- Second Career A-Sun Pitcher of the Week; second-straight honor
- Extended scoreless inning streak to 19.2 innings with 4-0 shutout vs. ETSU
- Recorded a career-high eight strikeouts in nine innings of work
- Allowed six hits and no walks in the series opener
- Lowered ERA to 1.30 - best in the A-Sun
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Derek Bushey (RHP, ETSU) - Tossed seven shutout innings in win vs. FGCU on Saturday
- Matt Hamann (SP, Belmont) - Allowed only one hit in five innings of work vs. No. 15 Stetson
- Josh Carr (P, Kennesaw State) - Earned fifth-consecutive win on Saturday vs. Jacksonville with complete-game effort
- David Roseboom (P, USC Upstate) - Set a new career-high with 7.2 innings pitched in 3-1 win vs. North Florida
