MACON, Ga. – Lipscomb's Aaron Sandoval and FGCU's Brandon Bixler picked up their first-career Atlantic Sun Conference Baseball weekly honors, announced Monday by the league office. Sandoval batted .533 on the week with six runs batted in and four runs scored, while Bixler struck out a career-high 14 batters in seven innings of one-hit shutout ball.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Aaron Sandoval, Lipscomb (SS – Jr. – Albuquerque, N.M. – Psychology)
- First Career A-Sun Player of the Week award
- Led Bisons to 3-1 week including series victory vs. Campbell (33-12)
- Drove in six runs and crossed the plated on four occasions
- Notched at least one RBI in every game of the week
- Batted .533 for the week
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Mark Jones (SS, Stetson) - Ran hitting streak to 15 games, while driving in four runs on the week
- Chesny Young (3B, Mercer) - Led Bears to 5-0 week with .455 batting average; midst of 13-game hitting streak
PITCHER OF THE WEEK:
Brandon Bixler, FGCU (LHP – So. – Oviedo, Fla.)
- First Career A-Sun Pitcher of the Week
- Fanned a career-high 14 batters vs. Kennesaw State in seven innings of the series finale
- His strikeout total was one away from the single-game program record
- Allowed only one hit, one walk and no runs in the standout performance
- Tossed 105 pitches in the outing to help Eagles to sweep of Owls
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Gil Rehwinkel (RP, Lipscomb) - Picked up a win and save with a 0.00 ERA and only three hits allowed
- Robbie Powell (RP, Stetson) - Earned three saves with 4.1 innings of shutout work which included eight strikeouts
- Brandon Barker (SP, Mercer) - Hurled a complete game shutout vs. Alabama State with a career-high nine strikeouts
