A-Sun Teams Grab Wins Over Big East, Big 10 and Big 12

MACON, Ga. - On just the second day of the Atlantic Sun Baseball season three teams landed victories over squads from the Big East, Big Ten and Big 12.

ETSU's freshman starter Griffin Krieg gave the Bucs five strong innings as they defeated Penn State, 8-3, on Saturday afternoon.

The Buccaneers pounded out 13 hits, with junior Clinton Freeman and senior Derek Niesman combining to go 7-for-9 with three runs scored and five RBI. Freeman was a perfect 4-for-4 with a double, RBI, and two runs scored, while Niesman went 3-for-5 with a home run, run scored and four RBIs.

North Florida trailed West Virginia 6-5 heading into the bottom of the ninth. The Ospreys used an RBI double from Donnie Dewees and a walk-off single from Joe Wielbruda to post a 7-6 victory over West Virginia. North Florida improves to 2-0 on the season and claimed the series with the Mountaineers.

Mercer had an impressive offensive showing as they claimed a 13-5 win over St. John's as part of the Snowbird Baseball Classic on Saturday afternoon.

The Bears hammered out four home runs against the Big East opponent including seven-run inning in the bottom of the fourth.

A-Sun baseball continues Sunday, February 17th with ten games scheduled.
