Eagles Sweep A-Sun Honors after Taking Three from Florida

MACON, Ga. - After an impressive three-game road sweep of No. 7 Florida Gators, FGCU also swept the Atlantic Sun Baseball Weekly Honors, announced Monday by the league office.

Brooks Beisner earned the Player of the Week honors as he hit two home runs against the Gators and batted an even .500, while Ricky Knapp started off the series with a complete game win and only two runs allowed with four strikeouts and no walks for the A-Sun Pitcher of the Week accolade.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Brooks Beisner, FGCU
(1B – Sr. – Punta Gorda, Fla. – History)

  • First Career A-Sun Player of the Week honor
  • Batted .500 (6-for-12) with six RBI in a sweep at No. 7 Florida
  • Tallied two home runs vs. the Gators and scored three runs
  • Hit game-tying homer on Sunday to help Eagles win in extra innings
  • Added two doubles on the wee with a slugging percentage of 1.167
  • Posted on-base percentage of .600
OTHER NOMINEES:
  • Derrick Workman (OF, Mercer) - Sported a .636 batting average for the week as Bears went 3-1
  • Andrew Green (OF, ETSU) - Helped Bucs to a 4-0 week by batting .533 with seven RBI
  • Aaron Sandoval (SS, Lipscomb) - Amassed nine hits and seven runs scored in five contests for LU
  • Donnie Dewees (OF, North Florida) - Batted .556 in 3-1 week for UNF with three runs scored
PITCHER OF THE WEEK:
Ricky Knapp, FGCU
(RHP – Jr. – Port Charlotte, Fla. – Civil Engineering)
  • Third Career Pitcher of the Week honor; first this season
  • Threw complete game 8-2 win vs. No. 7 Florida on Friday
  • Allowed only six hits and two earned runs against the Gators
  • Struck out four batters on the road with no walks
  • Earned his second win of the season
OTHER NOMINEES:
  • Jacob Knott (RHP, Lipscomb) - Earned win vs. Tennessee Tech with six innings of work and five strikeouts
  • Clinton Freeman (LHP, ETSU) - Picked up two wins and a save on the week in four total innings of week as ETSU went 4-0
  • Brett Loeding (RHP, Northern Kentucky) - Earned the first win in NKU Division I history on Friday vs. St. Louis
  • D.J. Johnson (RHP, Mercer) - Threw a career-high seven scoreless innings vs. Bethune-Cookman on Sunday in 5-0 win
  • David Trexler (RHP, North Florida) - Tossed 7.2 innings of work vs. Bethune-Cookman allowed only five hits
