MACON, Ga. - ETSU's freshman duo of Jeremy Taylor and Griffin Krieg powered the Buccaneers to a conference opening series win vs. USC Upstate and in the process earned the underclassmen the Atlantic Sun Baseball Weekly Honors, announced Monday by the league office.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Jeremy Taylor, ETSU (OF – Fr. – Fayetteville, Ga.)
- First Career A-Sun Player of the Week honor; second for ETSU this season
- Totaled 11 hits with three doubles and five RBI in a 3-2 week for ETSU
- Crossed the plate eight teams including four times in win vs. UNCA
- Added five hits vs. the Bulldogs with four RBI
- Recorded two doubles in 10-4 Sunday win vs. USC Upstate
- Helped Bucs to a 2-1 start in conference play with series win vs. Spartans
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Robert Bruce (OF, Stetson) - Hit .474 with five RBI including game-winners vs. B-CU and Fairfield
- Corbin Olmstead (RHP/IF, North Florida) - Amassed nine hits with five RBI; added 2.1 innings pitched
- Kal Simmons (SS, Kennesaw State) - Collected seven hits in 14 at-bats including four vs. Mercer on Sunday
PITCHER OF THE WEEK:
Griffin Krieg, ETSU (RHP – Fr. – Nashville, Tenn. – Sport Management)
- First Career Pitcher of the Week honor
- Pitched 11.0 innings on the week without allowing a run
- Allowed only five hits with only two walks and five strikeouts
- Earned the win vs. USC Upstate with eight scoreless innings and four hits
- Added three scoreless innings vs. Winthrop on one hit and three strikeouts
- Bucs currently sit tied for first place in the A-Sun at 2-1
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Blake Bagshaw (RHP, Northern Kentucky) - Fanned eight batters in 6.2 innings vs. Eastern Michigan with one earned run
- Kevin Kyle (RHP, Kennesaw State) - Claimed the Sunday win vs. Mercer with 6.2 innings pitched and one earned run
- Kyle Westwood (RHP, North Florida) - Tossed 7.2 combined innings in two contests; totaled 13 strikeouts on the week
