KSU Wins, Secures Spot in #ASunBSB Championship

MACON, Ga. – Kennesaw State clinched its spot in the upcoming A-Sun Championship in dramatic fashion on Sunday, topping USC Upstate 7-6 in the 10th inning within the friendly confines of Stillwell Baseball Stadium.

Tied 6-6 in the bottom of the 10th inning, sophomore catcher Max Pentecost singled to drive in Andy Almonte for his 21st RBI of the season. The Owls completed the sweep of USC Upstate after defeating the Spartans 4-2 on Friday and 5-2 on Saturday for their second series sweep of the season.

James Connell (1-0) picked up the win for the Owls and Chad Sobotka (0-4) took the loss for the Spartans. Penetocost joined Almonte, Kal Simmons, Bo Way and Alex Liquori with RBIs. Liquori went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a triple and scored twice to lead the Owls.

The Owls have won their last four games, which began with a non-conference road win against Georgia State on May 8.

Kennesaw State has one three-game series remaining with Lipscomb, May 16-18, before heading to Deland, Fla., for the A-Sun Baseball Championship.

Other wins on Sunday included road wins from Lipscomb and FGCU, the Bisons topping Jacksonville, 12-3, and the Eagles besting North Florida, 10-7. Along with KSU, Mercer and Stetson picked up home wins against ETSU (2-0) and Northern Kentucky (7-6), respectively.
