Owls Start Off Day Four with Elimination Win vs. Bisons

DELAND, Fla. – Kennesaw State scored four runs on two singles, a hit by pitch and an error in the top of the seventh to knock off Lipscomb 4-2 on day four of the 2013 Atlantic Sun Baseball Championship on Saturday.

The resilient Kennesaw State Owls (28-29; 13-14) trailed the Bisons by two runs for six innings before taking its first lead of the game. The loss eliminates Lipscomb (25-34; 8-19) from the tournament after the Bisons lost to North Florida in the first round on Wednesday.

KSU starting pitcher Kevin Kyle pitched through six innings to take the win and improve to 7-7 this season. Kyle took away five strikeouts while giving up two runs and six hits.

Lipscomb turned to four different pitchers, but it was starter Will Blalock who picked up the loss and now falls to 2-5 on the year. Blalock gave up four runs - only three earned - and five hits through six and a third innings.

Third baseman Peyton Hart and right fielder Alex Liquori both posted RBI singles in the top of the seventh to put KSU on the board and tie the game at 2-2. Second baseman Andy Almonte was hit by a pitch to pick up his second RBI of the tournament and put the Owls up 3-2. Hart and Liquori both ended 1-for-4 at the plate with one run and one RBI each.

Lipscomb first baseman Tyson Ashcraft put his team on the board in the bottom of the first with a two RBI single into right field. Ashcraft finished 1-for-4 at the plate with two RBI.

No. 7 Kennesaw State earns a rematch with unbeaten No. 3 North Florida at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
