• The Bruins dropped two of three to
Kennsaw State, but still clinched a spot in the A-Sun tourney. Belmont will be
no worse than the No. 4 seed in the postseason tournament. • Belmont's Wilson
Tucker currently sits 10th on the career hits list with 266 hits. Tucker's career
batting average is currently .359, which ties him for 16th all-time. • Belmont
will play the rest of their 2007 season in DeLand, Fla. They finish the regular
season at Stetson, and then will play the A-Sun Tourney.
• CU stumbled to an
0-4 week, giving up an average of 11 runs per game. The Camels have lost six straight,
and set a school record for losses on Friday, now with 42. • Carlton Floyd
led the sticks with a 10-20 (.500) week. Jacob Allen posted six hits in 13 trips
to the plate (.467) and Daniel Smith also was hot, going 7-16 (.438). • Hunter
Ford threw a season and career high 5.2 innings of relief, allowing 0 earned runs
and striking out four batters for CU.
• ETSU currently sits in 6th place
in the A-Sun standings after losing 14 of 16 games, including 6 conference losses
in a row. The Bucs have lost 11 of 12 A-Sun matchups. • ETSU sits on the bubble
for postseason play. They hold the tiebreaker over GWU, and would get in with
a three-way tie between ETSU, Lipscomb and GWU.
• Daniel Cooke is sizzling of late,
batting a robust .588 over his last five games played. He ranks No. 4 in league
games with a .388 batting average and has stolen a career-high 20 bases. •
If he holds on to his current team lead, Cooke would become the first student-athlete
in GWU history to lead the football team in tackles (99 in 2005) and the baseball
team in hits (61 so far in 2007)over the course of a season during a two-sport
career. Cooke is a two-time All-Conference choice on the gridiron at free safety.
• Senior second baseman Logan
James batted .538 (7-13) with two doubles, a triple and four RBI over the weekend.
Senior left fielder Pete Clifford extended his hitting streak to 12 games after
batting .467 (7-15) with three doubles and a home run • Junior Matt Davis
notched his first career complete-game victory in an 8-4 win over ETSU in game
two. Junior Matt Gardner notched his first career save in a 4-3 in game one before
earning the win with eight strong innings in the finale • JU tied its season-high
for hits (18) against ETSU
• Jay Morrow drove in four runs
in the Owls win over the Bruins on Saturday, marking the second time this season
he has driven in four runs in a game. Jace Whitmer and Jerome Wooley each have
five game hitting streaks as the Owls head into their final four games of the
season. • Bubba Blalock picked up the save (his first of the season) in the
final game of the three-game series with Belmont. The Owls now have seven pithcers
with at least one save this year. Justin Freeman leads KSU with seven saves.
• In the Bisons' 4-1 win against Stetson
on Sunday, Taylor Merry was dominant, allowing just one run on five hits in his
seven plus innings of work. With the win he improve to 4-2 on the season. •
Right-hander, Matt Schnelly entered Sunday's game against Stetson in relief of
Merry in the eighth inning with no outs and the bases loaded. He was impressive,
getting the first batter he faced to ground into a double-play before recording
a strikeout to end the inning.
• Senior Eric Renfroe has been the offensive catalyst in
conference action leading the squad with a .388 batting average, three home runs,
a .600 slugging percentage and a .485 on-base percentage. • Senior Brantley
New has stabalized the rotation in conference action sporting 3-1 record with
a 2.29 ERA to go along with 49 strikeouts in 59 innings. • The Bears pounded
out five home runs from five different players in their three-game set at Gardner-Webb.
• The Dolphins swept their second
A-Sun series in a row taking three from Campbell.The Ospreys have won 7 of 8 and
continue to climb up the A-Sun Standings. • North Florida finished the 2006
season with a 20-11 conference record. Currently at 12-12, the best the Ospreys
can hope for is a 15-12 finish. • UNF is ineligible to play in the A-Sun Tourney,
but they will still make an impact, as they host GWU this weekend in a must win
series for the Bulldogs.
• The Hatters remained unbeaten in
A-Sun series, taking two out of three at Lipscomb. Both wins came in a doubleheader
sweep Saturday night, with Stetson taking the nightcap in extra innings on an
Erich Holland home run. Corey Kluber won the opener to improve his record to 10-1.
• Shane Jordan continued to move up the A-Sun record books. He scored his
223rd career run on Saturday to move into third place. He needs 16 more runs to
pass fellow Hatter Ned French for second place. He needs 18 more hits to pass
French as the A-Sun’s all-time hits leader.
