Tucson, Ariz. - The two most honored student-athletes in the Atlantic Sun were honored by Collegiate Baseball newspaper today, being named to the Louisville Slugger All-American second team.
Atlantic Sun player of the year and tournament MVP, Pete Clifford, was chosen as a second team outfielder. Clifford led Jacksonville to the A-Sun tournament title batting .359 with 14 home runs and a conference leading 59 RBI. He also had 17 doubles and 21 stolen bases. Clifford and the Dolphins are the No. 4 seed in the Chapel Hill Regional.
Atlantic Sun pitcher of the year, Corey Kluber, was chosen as a second team starting pitcher. Kluber helped lead Stetson to the A-Sun regular season championship going 11-2 with a conference best 2.19 ERA. Kluber also lead the A-Sun with 110 strikeouts. Stetson is the No. 3 seed in the Tallahassee Regional with play beginning on Friday, June 1.
This marks the seventh time since 2000 a Stetson player has earned All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball. Chris Johnson (2006), Brian Snyder (2003), Chris Westervelt (2002, 2004), Frank Corr (2000), and DiNardo (2000, 2001) are the others.
The Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I All-American baseball teams are chosen by performances up to regional playoffs and picked by the staff of
Collegiate Baseball newspaper.
