Lipscomb marked the unofficial start to the basketball season Monday with the inaugural HoopapaLUza. The event featured a boisterous student cheering section, a 3-point shootout from men’s and women’s players, hundreds of dollars in student giveaways and a slam dunk exhibition.

At the end of the festivities, players gave a message delivered by way of improvised rap lyrics, which encouraged student support of the teams this season. The evening ended with seniors Shaun Durant and James Poindexter letting loose an over-the-top freestyle dance that had everyone in Allen Arena cheering and laughing.
