With the regular season opener just days away, Coach Robbie Laing offers his insight into the Fighting Camels' 2005-06 season.

Q. What do you see as some of the major changes in this your third year in charge of the Fighting Camel program?

A. On last year’s team, we had seven new guys who had never been on a Division I court. They were talented, but were unproven at this level. Now they have had the experience of traveling the nation and playing in many different arenas, which put them under duress. We hope that experience will start to help us win games, instead of just coming close.

Hopefully this year we will start to see the building take shape. It’s been a long, arduous process, but one that is starting to show benefits we can build on. In rebounding, we’ve gone from negative-10 a game to plus-two. That’s an effort stat which shows that we’re putting energy into the right place.

Q. How have the veterans grown within the system over the last two seasons?

A. We made a lot of progress with the core players we had over the last two years.
