Wednesday, August 17, 2005 The David versus Goliath analogy gets tossed around far too often in the sports world. Occasionally, it fits too well for writers to pass up. Gardner-Webb University will open its 2005-2006 basketball season in Chapel Hill against the defending national champion North Carolina Tar Heels on Nov. 19. “It’s going to be one of those things that brings an unbelievable amount of attention to us,” GWU head coach Rick Scruggs said. “I’m not sure people can understand what this will do for our school. You just can’t buy that kind of publicity.” The Bulldogs, entering their sixth season as a NCAA Division I institution, have scheduled several major programs in recent years.
