Deandre Rice scored a game-high 22 points off the bench to help Florida Atlantic outlast newcomer North Florida in the first Atlantic Sun Conference game of the season.

Rodney Webb hit a pair of free throws with just 12 seconds remaining in the game to give FAU a three-point lead. However, Derrick Scott's potential game-tying three-pointer missed with teammate Alain Laroche getting the offensive rebound and being fouled in the process. After making the first, Laroche intentionally missed the second in hopes of another offensive rebound, but Webb secured the rebound and the win for the Owls.

Eight more league teams join the action tomorrow.
