Laroche Snags Second A-Sun POTW Award

Macon, Ga. – UNF’s Alain Laroche became the first repeat winner of the season when he snagged Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week honors on Monday as announced by the league office.

Laroche led UNF to their first victory over a Division I opponent with 21 points and a career-high 14 rebounds versus Savannah State last Monday. The senior forward continued his impressive play, scoring 15 points at College of Charleston before putting up his third double-double of the season at Binghamton. Versus the Bearcats, Laroche tallied 23 points and 10 boards. In the week’s final two games, the forward played all but three minutes. For the week, Laroche shot .523 from the floor including 4-of-7 from beyond the three-point line and an impressive 9-of-10 from the foul line.

Laroche is one of two A-Sun players currently averaging a double-double, putting up 18.3 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native is majoring in Finance at UNF.

The Atlantic Sun Conference hands out Player of the Week awards weekly during the 2005 basketball campaign.

The 11-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Florida Atlantic, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, North Florida and Stetson.
