ETSU's Tim Smith Captures First A-Sun POTW Honor

Macon, Ga. – Senior Tim Smith earned his first Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week award after leading ETSU to its second straight victory on December 29.

Smith poured in 24 points while dishing out seven assists in 37 minutes of action to help carry the Bucs (3-6, 0-2 A-Sun) past Morehead State in the team’s non-conference finale on December 29 at the Memorial Center. The Newport News, Va., native posted his 46th career 20-point game to bump his A-Sun leading scoring average to 22.1 points per game. He ranks 11th nationally in scoring and second in steals per game (3.6).

With the 24 points, Smith moved to third place on the ETSU all-time scoring list with 1884 career points, overtaking former Buc great Calvin Talford (1988-92). The guard remains on pace to become the program’s all-time leading scorer by year’s end. Smith is majoring in Sports Management.

The Atlantic Sun Conference hands out Player of the Week awards weekly during the 2005-06 basketball campaign.

The 11-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Florida Atlantic, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, North Florida and Stetson.
