Thursday, January 12, 2006 KENNESAW‚ Georgia – Four Kennesaw State players scored in double figures as the Owls hung on for a thrilling 78−72 overtime victory against East Tennessee State in front of a crowd of 1‚105 at the KSU Convocation Center on Thursday night. With four−tenths of a second remaining in regulation‚ and KSU (7−8‚ 5−1 A−Sun) leading 67−66‚ Buccaneers’ guard Tim Smith was fouled while shooting a three pointer to give ETSU (6−7‚ 3−3 A−Sun) three chances to win the game. Smith hit the first free throw‚ but missed the final two to send the game into an extra frame. The win is the third straight for the Owls and pushes them into a tie for first place in the Atlantic Sun with Florida Atlantic‚ as both teams are 5−1 in conference play. The Owls trailed by as many as five points with 3:33 left in overtime‚ but ETSU would not score again as the Owls went on an 11−0 run to end the game. Golden Ingle (9−of−19 from the field) led Kennesaw State with 24 points and seven assists‚ and Ronell Wooten tallied the Owls first double−double of the season with 21 points and a team−high 14 rebounds while shooting 9−of−21 from the floor. |
