Tuesday, January 31, 2006 The Battle of the Boulevard’s reputation for nail biters bit the dust last night in a Belmont blowout. The Bruins, who had lost an overtime decision just 12 days earlier to Lipscomb, dominated early and again late on their way to an 81-65 victory. A near-capacity Curb Event Center crowd of 4,650 watched the Bruins (10-9, 8-4 Atlantic Sun) cause havoc for the Bisons (13-7, 9-3), who rode a seven-game win streak into the game. In a role reversal, unlike at the Lipscomb win when the fans rushed the court, Belmont’s players re-emerged from the locker room moments after the game and went into the stands to celebrate. Brian Collins poured in a season-high 21 points and Josh Goodwin added 21 as well for the Bruins. By MIKE ORGAN |
