Florence Eyes Mitchell's Record as Bears Face 49ers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Mercer men’s basketball team is set to continue its season long five-game road trip with a non-conference matchup against UNC-Charlotte on Dec. 29. The game, scheduled for 7:30 p.m., will be held at Halton Arena.

Mercer is currently 4-7 (0-2 A-Sun) after most recently falling at Alabama, 90-71 on Dec. 23. All-American candidate James Florence enters the meeting with Charlotte just eight points short of breaking Sam Mitchell’s program scoring record.

After a 24-point output against Alabama, Florence has now amassed 1,979 points in his career. Florence has totaled 1,979 points in just 99 games played for an average of 20.0 points per contest.

Charlotte returns four starters from last year’s team that finished 11-20 (5-11 A-10). The 49ers are currently 9-2 (0-0 A-10) and are featured among teams receiving votes in the most recent ESPN/USA Today Top 25 poll.
