Eagles, Bruins Ring in New Year in Game of the Week

MACON, Ga. - Conference play hits full stride on Saturday, highlighted by an afternoon contest with FGCU at Belmont. The Eagles saw their four-game win streak end on Tuesday in a road loss to Stetson

Prior to the loss in DeLand, the Eagles had hit on 41.3 percent of their 3-point tries. In their opening six games, all losses, FGCU made just 22.6 percent from beyond the arc. The trend returned against the Hatters, as the Eagles connected on only 4-of-14 from 3-point distance.

Two of the conference’s more impressive freshmen share the court in FGCU’s Anthony Banks and Belmont’s Ian Clark. Banks ranks second on the Eagles in scoring at 12.3 points while leading in rebounding, 6.0 and field goal shooting, 58.5 percent. Clark ranks second in the conference in scoring among freshmen at 12.5 points per game.

The Bruins have controlled the series, winning all prior meetings. In those games, the Bruins have averaged 85.7 points and have connected on at least 10 3-point field goals in each meeting. Belmont enters the contest owning a 48-9 record (.842 win pct) in league games at the Curb Event Center.
