Thursday, January 28, 2010 MACON, Ga. – It wasn’t easy for head coach Tony Ingle and the Owls, but Kennesaw State’s leader claimed his spot as the winningest coach in the history of the program as KSU edged Mercer, 71-69, on the heels of a game-winning lay-up by Spencer Dixon on Wednesday night before a raucous crowd at the University Center. In a tooth-and-nail contest, Ingle’s Owls (9-12, 4-6 A-Sun) pulled out the two-point win for their third straight win and third conference road win in a row. With the win, Ingle won his 166th game as head coach of the Owls, overtaking the Owls first coach, Phil Zenoni, for the most wins in the history of the program. I do not see this as an individual accomplishment, but as a team accomplishment,” said Ingle after his milestone win. “I am proud to be associated with this program and all of the talented student-athletes that have come through our program.” The dramatic affair saw 15 ties, 13 lead and no lead bigger than seven points. Markeith Cummings, the leading freshman scorer in the country proved why, scoring a game-high 25 points. Fellow freshman LaDaris Green recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. “I am proud of this team tonight,” added Ingle. “We found a way to win the game after three tough possessions at the end, but we overcame it, played solid defense when we needed to and came together as a team.” |
