Saturday, November 13, 2010

Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Stetson men's basketball team opened the season with an impressive 89-79 road win over Wake Forest in Winston-Salem. It is the first Stetson win over an ACC opponent since January 5, 1974 when the Hatters defeated Virginia 78-76 in Winter Park, Florida.

Sophomore Ridge Graham led the Hatters with 21 points and 12 rebounds. It is the second consecutive season he has opened with a double-double. Tyshawn Patterson and Joel Naburgs also hit double figures with 20 and 16 points respectively.

Stetson opened the game with a 9-2 run, led by three at the half (36-33), and never trailed in the second half on its way to one of the biggest wins in the Derek Waugh era.

The win represents the first for the A-Sun against the ACC since College of Charleston beat Maryland in 1997 NCAA Tournament.

Wake Forest, which fell to 19-2 against current members of the Atlantic Sun Conference, lost an opener at the Joel Coliseum for the first time since the building opened in 1989.
