Campbell's Hartley Nominated for Bob Cousy Award

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Junard Hartley of Campbell University is one of 66 candidates for the 2011 Bob Cousy Award. The annual honor, named for Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic Bob Cousy, recognizes college basketball's top point guard.

"The Hall of Fame is proud to once again work with Mr. Cousy and to present one of college basketball's most coveted awards," said John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Basketball Hall of Fame. "This list represents a wide range of college basketball's top players and we look forward to honoring the legacy of Mr. Cousy with this year's award winner."

A senior from Atlanta, Ga., Hartley has started the last 93 games for the Fighting Camels (6-3) - every contest since the seventh of his freshman year.

He Leads Atlantic Sun Conference and ranks 25th nationally in assists (5.8 per game) and ranks among the A-Sun top six in steals (1.8) and assist-turnover ratio (2.0).

A pre-season Atlantic Sun all-conference team selection (2010-11), Hartley was named A-Sun Defensive Player of the Year and Mid-Major Defensive All-America (by CollegeInsider.com) in 2009-10 after ranking 9th in the country in assists (5.93) and 12th in steals (2.57).

Last season, Hartley led Campbell to its first-ever regular season conference championship in 2009-10 as well as school records for regular season (19) and league (14) victories in the program's NCAA Division I era (since 1977-78).

Entering Wednesday's home game vs. UNC Wilmington, Hartley ranks 12th on the Atlantic Sun Conference career assists list (492) and 17th on the A-Sun career steals charts (179). He stands 3rd on Campbell's school career assists and steals listings.
