Tuesday, January 25, 2011 MACON, Ga. - Less than two weeks after Belmont won the opening round of the "Battle of the Boulevard" of 2010-11, the Bruins and Lipscomb renew their rivalry at 7 p.m. CT on CSS. Although the series has featured many close encounters, the meeting at the Curb Event Center on January 13 was no contest at Belmont rolled to an 88-52 victory, it was the largest victory for the Bruins in series history and the second-largest margin in any Belmont-Lipscomb contest. Tonight’s matchup features two of the 16 teams in the country that have registered at least five 90-point games this season. Lipscomb owns six, tied with Duke, Missouri, Northwestern and Oakland for the fourth-most 90-point games in the country. Belmont is the first A-Sun school to start 10-0 in league play since UCF in 2003-04. The Golden Knights went one to go 17-3 in the league, 25-6 overall. Troy won the regular season at 18-2, but UCF won the tournament and advanced to NCAAs.
Belmont’s bench has made more 3-point field goals (99) than 70 Division I teams including California (94), North Carolina (92), Oklahoma State (87), Maryland (86), Georgia (85) and St. John’s (71). Lipscomb's Adnan Hodzic and Duke’s Kyle Singler are the two active players in the country to have accumulated at least 1,750 points and 750 rebounds. Hodzic recently moved into the top 10 of the A-Sun’s all-time scoring chart and with at least 11 games remaining, could join Willie Jackson (Centenary, 1980-84), James Florence (Mercer, 2006-10), Jonathan Rodriguez (Campbell, 2006-10) and Courtney Pigram (ETSU, 2005-09) in the league’s 2,000-point club. Matt Stewart and former ETSU head coach Sonny Smith will handle the broadcast. For those outside the CSS markets, catch all the action on ESPN3.com or on ESPN Full Court. |
